How can a help my beta?

My beta was dying b/c my sister took him and didn't take care of him. So I put him in my own little rehab. He in a gallon vase with a beta bomboo. I put API salt in his bowl to heal him. Is there anything else I can do to help him. He turned really ugly and brown so I want to make him more colorful.

How can a help my beta?
You can buy a medicated flake food for tropical fish at wal mart. It's not very expensive but it helps replace vital nutrients and such. It also helps heal the digestive system and basically heal your fish from the inside out. After you get him better you can get some food formulated for bringing out their colors. Untill you know you have his health where it should be stay away from live foods. Sometimes they can cause more damage than you solve.
Reply:Get him a proper tank with a heater. Nobody likes to live in a vase.
Reply:There is color-enhancing flakes available for Bettas, and bloodworms do pretty well too. I'd worry more about him getting better than being a pretty color, though.
Reply:Get him a 5 gallon heated, cycled and filtered tank. Get him live/silk plants too and feed him live food once in a while. He'll love you for that. :D
Reply:Use the chlorine remover and just wait.

Dont mess around with it too much.

And Betas are always looking like that, put a mirror near him on the outside and see what happens, its awsome.
Reply:A heater can help ward off diseases and help mend fins.

As well as medicating with Melafix.

Being in a 1 gallon tank without a filter, the salt will just effect him and not actually help him.
